9News Interviews Arvada X Motorsports 2009ARVADA - While most little boys were playing baseball or basketball, Dominic Ursetta and Eddie Belec were working with cars. Both boys are very passionate about racing, but there is a bond between them that is much stronger then just the sport

Ursetta and Belec grew up at the racetrack. Belec's dad used to race late model cars at Colorado National Speedway.

"Being at the racetrack every weekend with him just really got me motivated," Belec said.

Family ties run much deeper for these two Arvada X Motorsports teammates; they're also cousins who keep everyone involved in their sport. Regina Ursetta, Dominic's mom and Belec's aunt, updates their Web sites and the dads of both racers play important roles getting the cars ready to race.

"Arvada Excavating owns the shop, my dad, Dub, Mike, Ed, everyone in the family," Dominic Ursetta said. "We have a beautiful place here and couldn't do it without it."

Ursetta and Belec have been cleaning up in the modified series at two Colorado racetracks. Ursetta won the championship at the I-76 Raceway in Fort Morgan with Belec a close second and only 1 point separates the two at Phillips County Speedway in Holyoke.

"We're pretty competitive," Belec said. "As much as we want each other to win, we go after it pretty hard."

"I think we both want to win," Ursetta said. "That's our goal, but we want to finish one - two all the time. I want him to do as well as me."

Belec's dad and Ursetta's uncle, Ed Belec, Sr. believes it is good for the boys to race together because they also push each other to be better.

Both boys said that Belec's dad has been their inspiration and motivation.

"He pushes me so hard and I think that is why I've had my success," Eddie Belec said

Ed Belec, Sr. thinks credit lies with the boys because of their teamwork and a little family friendly competition.

"It's incredible how well they work together. There is never any animosity between each other," Ed Belec, Sr. said. "Ever since they were little racing remote control cars, they've been super competitive and that is what gives them the drive to be so successful."

The racing cousins also realize how fortunate they are to have sponsorships and the resources to race each week like Taylor Chassis, who sponsors each car, and DC Engines, who provides the motors.

"It's huge, " Belec said. "We have a big advantage to have a team like we do and being as competitive as we are."

They also realize the importance of having a great support system to cheer them on.

"I couldn't do this without my family," Ursetta said. "That's for sure."

Ursetta has been racing for five years and Belec has been racing for four. They plan to continue racing in the modified series, but are also looking at some races on asphalt.

Their ultimate goal is to make it to the big times.

"The ultimate goal is NASCAR, of course," Belec said, "But we would like to get up to racing late models at Colorado National Speedway and tour around the United States and see where it goes."
